The Eliminating Health Disparity Initiative (EHDI) is a grant program within the Center for Health Equity. EHDI was established during the 2001 legislative session. The program invests about $5 million dollars annually in community initiatives that address health inequities for populations of color and American Indians across eight different priority health areas.

Project name: Check Yo'Self Health and Wellness Center TPP Program

Project Description: The Check Yo’Self Health and Wellness Center works to eliminate teen pregnancy primarily through two peer-led, evidence-based programs. SIHLE is a culturally-specific intervention for black girls that focuses on self-esteem, sisterhood and STD prevention. Safer Choices is a classroom based intervention for black girls and boys. This curriculum focuses on providing medially accurate information, addressing attitudes and beliefs regarding sexual health, promoting abstinence and condom use, and healthy self-efficacy.
EDHI Grant Activity Outcomes: 1) Program participants will demonstrate a positive change in knowledge, behaviors, and attitudes to reduce the chance of unintended teen pregnancy. 2) All partner clinics and at least 60% of partnerships organizations will increase capacity to educate about the Minnesota Minors’ Consent Law, to make and share youth referrals to services covered by the law.
